Day 25 The Frozen River

DAY 25 — THE FROZEN RIVER

A fisherman walked to the river in early winter
and found it completely frozen on the surface.

“What a dead river,” he muttered.
“No movement. No life.”

An old villager laughed gently and said,
“You judge too quickly.
The river is still flowing beneath—
you just can’t see it.”

The fisherman knelt,
placed his ear on the ice,
and heard it—
the deep rumble of water moving freely below.

Sometimes your heart feels frozen:
prayers feel dry,
love feels distant,
spiritual life feels motionless.

You begin to think,
“My soul is dead.
Nothing is happening.”

But beneath the surface,
God is at work.
Grace still flows.
Mercy still moves.
Healing still runs like a river
under the ice.

Lent invites you to trust
what you cannot feel—
because spiritual warmth
often begins below the surface.
