In this reminder, Ustadh Mahad Dirie explains how to plan for Ramadan by first recognising that people have different schedules and capacities, so there isn’t one “perfect” programme for everyone. Instead, he lays out revelation-based goals to aim for: attaining taqwa (the core purpose of fasting), seeking forgiveness and salvation from the Hellfire, strengthening one’s bond with the Qur’an (guidance, reflection, and increased recitation), striving to catch Laylat al-Qadr through worship in the last ten nights, and entering Ramadan with knowledge and basīrah so one avoids mistakes in fasting.
Ustadh then encourages focusing on the quality of worship (ikhlās and following the Sunnah), increasing Qur’an recitation appropriately, being generous in sadaqah (especially feeding those who are fasting and prioritising the truly needy), committing to Tarāwīḥ/Qiyām with the imam, and building a personal plan that fits one’s situation while keeping these priorities central.
