O Brother, where art thou? (2000) | The Cutting Room

How do you turn Homer's Odyssey into a Depression-era prison-break comedy with a chart-topping bluegrass soundtrack? Only the Coen brothers would attempt it, and somehow they made it sing.

Their freewheeling musical comedy O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) stars George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson as three escaped convicts loose in 1930s Mississippi, with T Bone Burnett's soundtrack becoming a phenomenon all of its own. The Coens' direction and writing, the pioneering digital colour grading and the Man of Constant Sorrow craze get talked through in full.
