When Robert Pattinson was announced as Batman, a corner of the internet lost the plot. Then the film landed, and the brooding, eyeliner-smudged detective at its centre quietly won most of them over.

The Batman (2022) is Matt Reeves's three-hour noir, less caped blockbuster than rain-soaked crime thriller, with Paul Dano's Zodiac-inspired Riddler, a Nirvana needle-drop, and Colin Farrell buried so deep in prosthetics as the Penguin you'd never place him. John, Westy and Matt talk through the direction, the writing, the detective spin on the character and the rest, then deliver three scores out of 10. Vengeance, scored out of ten.
