The women leading Iran's protests

56 min • 7 oktober 2022

Women have been at the forefront of ongoing protests in Iran, following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the so-called morality police three weeks ago. In a country infamous for crushing dissent, these women are trying to force authorities to pay attention to their demands, sometimes at their own peril, as Jomana Karadsheh explains. Following her report Christiane is joined by Shirin Ebadi, a Nobel laureate and human rights lawyer who was Iran's first female presiding judge before being demoted following the 1979 revolution.

Also on today's show: celebrated journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, author of a new memoir, My People; Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner.
