Were unusually tall people once buried beneath the ancient mounds of North America?

Researcher Ross Hamilton argues that hundreds of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century reports describe skeletons of exceptional stature recovered from burial mounds, caves and earthworks across the United States. From the Adena culture and the great earthworks of Ohio to Serpent Mound, Native American oral traditions and the early collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Hamilton believes a forgotten chapter of American prehistory remains buried beneath layers of controversy.

The discussion moves far beyond archaeology. Hamilton connects the giant traditions with ancient cosmology, the Phoenix myth, lost systems of spiritual knowledge, unusual earthworks, long-distance contacts and stories of an earlier age in which humanity possessed abilities now remembered only through mythology.

Some of the claims are highly speculative, others originate in old newspapers, excavation reports and historical accounts, and many remain fiercely disputed. Rather than treating every claim as established fact, this episode enters that disputed territory and asks a more interesting question: why were stories of giant skeletons once so widespread, and what, if anything, was behind them?
