A Court of Wings and Ruin: Chapters 19 - 21

64 min • 14 mars 2023

Welcome to our 21-part deep-dive literary analysis of Sarah J. Maas’s bestselling romantasy novel, A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOWAR). In this episode, we cover chapters 19 through 21, as Feyre faces the emotional aftermath of her Spring Court sabotage and begins training for the war that looms ahead.

With 13 years of combined academic literary experience and a rotating set of literary lenses, best friends Jac and Amy examine how Sarah J. Maas shifts the narrative from interpersonal fallout to tactical preparation. As Velaris becomes a place of healing and conflict, we explore themes of forgiveness, inner strength, and the search for unlikely allies in dark places.

Be sure to listen to our full literary analyses of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) and A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) to follow Feyre’s evolution into a leader capable of facing Hybern—and her past.

Chapter Description:
Feyre wakes up to a beautiful day in Velaris, only to be met with her friends’ residual anger at her decisions back in Hybern. With the help of the Illyrians, Feyre recommences her training and begins flying lessons, while Rhysand introduces her to the library under the House of Wind. The day’s worries culminate in a heated conversation that leads Feyre to the one place where she might find the right ally to defeat Hybern: the Prison where the Bone Carver resides.
