“Blessing Blinds”

This weekend we concluded our study of the 7 Churches of Revelation. The Church at Laodicea is in a prominent, self-made, powerful city. They have been blessed. The problem? This wealthy community has forgotten how desperately they need God. God’s blessing can often blind us to God himself. When you’re in a jam you can’t fix, you lean on him. When you’re in a relationship that’s coming apart, you lean on him. When you’re broke or broken, jobless or miserable, you’re more apt to lean on him for stability. But when you’re comfortable, successful and respected you can subconsciously forget who enabled you to succeed. Luckily, we serve a God who will match our flimsy faith with his rock solid faithfulness. Don’t let your blessings blind you to his love.

Not all hardship is punishment. Is God working on you (in you) right now? How would you rate your passion for God? The most important thing is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. How’s that going for you? Try some homework this week. Be intentional and find ways of connecting with God in this season. Join a small group, volunteer, serve a neighbor. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, in a season of blessing, burden, or boredom, may you seek the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
