Depending on the source, the invention of the electric motor is often attributed to Benjamin Franklin, Hans Christian Ørsted, Michael Faraday, William Sturgeon, or Thomas Davenport. But the work of a Benedictine monk from Scotland, Andrew Gordon, predates them all.
