Come, Follow Me Moms | August 31–September 6 Psalms 102–103; 110; 116–119; 127–128; 135–139; 146–150 “Let Every Thing That Hath Breath Praise the Lord”

This week we’re wrapping up Psalms with one beautiful reminder:

Praise doesn’t require a perfect life. Praise is recognizing God in the life you’re already living.

Psalm 116 begins, “I love the Lord, because…” and this week I want us to finish that sentence for ourselves.

Why do YOU love the Lord?

Maybe because He meets you where you are. Maybe because He has carried you through something you thought you couldn’t survive. Maybe because He loves you on your best days AND your hardest ones. Maybe because He has answered prayers, strengthened you, forgiven you, or simply stayed beside you.

This week we’re talking about noticing His goodness—even in the messy, exhausting, beautiful middle of motherhood.

In this episode:

❤️ Don’t forget what God has already done — Psalm 103
We pray for the babies…and then we’re exhausted when they don’t sleep. 😂 We pray for our homes…and then complain about cleaning them. Psalm 103 reminds us to “forget not all his benefits.”

And I LOVE the reminder that God “remembereth that we are dust.” He knows we’re human. He knows we’re tired. He knows we need patience. And just as He patiently teaches us again and again, maybe we can extend a little more of that mercy to our children—and ourselves.

🎒 Jesus Christ Is Relief
We’ll talk about President Camille N. Johnson’s message Jesus Christ Is Relief and her powerful backpack analogy. We all carry rocks—burdens from our own choices, the choices of others, and simply living in a fallen world.

Motherhood comes with plenty of rocks: worry, finances, marriage, meals, laundry, children, work, school, fear and mom guilt.

Christ may not immediately remove every rock, but Jesus Christ is relief.

☀️ “This is the day which the Lord hath made” — Psalm 118:24
Not someday when things calm down.

Not when the baby sleeps.

Not when the house is clean.

Not when the hard season ends.

THIS is the day.

Praise God in the life you are living right now.

🕯️ You don’t need the whole map — Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

God often doesn’t illuminate the next twenty years. He gives us enough light for the next faithful step.

Love them today.
Teach them today.
Pray today.
Apologize today.
Show up today.

Tomorrow, He’ll give you more light.

🌱 Can God use our afflictions? — Psalm 119
Trials aren’t necessarily good—but God can use them for good.

Discipleship isn’t simply about being good. It’s about becoming.

Our struggles can reveal what matters, expose weaknesses, deepen our dependence on Christ, and help us become more like Him.

🏠 “Except the Lord build the house…” — Psalm 127
Moms, we are building so much more than a house.

We’re building faith. Character. Relationships. Traditions. Testimonies. Memories. Disciples.

And we were never supposed to build it without Jesus.

👶 “Children are an heritage of the Lord” — Psalm 127:3
What would change about the way we mother if we truly remembered:

These children were His before they were ours.

Our teenagers belong to Him just as much as our snuggly newborns do. ❤️ How would we speak, correct, listen and love differently if we tried to see our children as the Savior sees them?

❤️ “His mercy endureth forever” — Psalm 136
This phrase is repeated over and over again.

After mistakes—His mercy endures.

After wandering—His mercy endures.

After bad parenting moments—His mercy endures.

When a child walks away—His mercy endures.

We’ll connect this with Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s The Prodigal and the Road That Leads Home and the beautiful truth that there is always a road home to Jesus Christ.

✨ God knows YOU — Psalm 139
“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.”

He knows your name.

He knows the child you’re worried about.

He knows the prayer you haven’t told anyone about.

He knows what motherhood costs you.

And I share a very personal experience from my twins’ C-section and the incredible peace I felt when I asked Heavenly Father for angels and help.

Sometimes relief isn’t escaping the hard thing.

Sometimes relief is realizing Christ is already there with you.

🎶 Where Can I Turn for Peace?
When other sources cease to make us whole, where do we turn?

Jesus Christ.

And finally:

“Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.” — Psalm 150:6

The Psalms contain fear, grief, sin, affliction, unanswered questions, wandering, mercy, healing and joy.

And after ALL of it, the book ends with:

PRAISE THE LORD.

Not when everything works out.

Not when your children behave.

Not when every prayer is answered the way you wanted.

If you have breath, praise Him.

This week’s invitation:

Finish this sentence:

“I love the Lord because __________.”

Then ask your children the same question around the dinner table, in the car, or during family Come, Follow Me.

Because praise isn’t pretending everything is okay.

Praise is remembering who God is while you’re walking through something that isn’t.

He knows you.
He knows your children.
His word will light your next step.
He will help you build your home.
Jesus Christ will give you relief.
And His mercy endureth forever. ❤️
