Episode 345: The Mandela Effect in the Bible, Part Five--Peter's Mother-in-Law

30 min19 september 2023
Simon Peter is often considered to be the leader of Jesus' inner circle of disciples, and he's remembered as a pillar (even the "Rock!") of the early church.  In some branches of Christianity, he is seen as an archetype of church leadership and a role model for clergy.  Oh yeah--and the gospels tell us that he had a mother-in-law... which sure does sound like he's married!  How does it change our picture of the disciples leaving their families to follow Jesus if you picture them with spouses, in-laws to care for, and maybe even kids?  How has Christian history remembered certain names and characters, but forgotten others--and why?  And how might it change our assumptions about what "Christian families" look like if we consider that there's actually a variety of models for households within even just the New Testament itself?  In this week's episode of Crazy Faith Talk, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve explore this case of the Mandela Effect in the Bible (where most of us have completely forgotten that there's a reference to Peter having a mother-in-law), and what it might mean (or not mean) for our understanding of Christian leadership and family life, all with a handful of pop culture checkpoints along the way.  Check it out here!
