In Mississippi, testimony is underway in the murder trial of a Jackson State University student accused of shooting his roommate over a box of doughnuts, pouring bleach on the scene, and dragging the body down seven flights of stairs to hide it in the victim's own car. In North Carolina, the murder case against the man accused of stabbing Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a light rail train has been halted after a psychiatric facility found him incompetent to stand trial. Also in North Carolina, a Marine veteran charged with three counts of murder in a dockside mass shooting in Southport has been ordered into psychiatric treatment, putting his case on hold indefinitely. And in Cincinnati, a murder case that stretched nearly four years ended in a surprise plea deal after a new eyewitness came forward and said the defendant was not the shooter.
