On January 29, 2025, a devastating midair collision occurred over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. An American Airlines regional jet, Flight 5342, collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter during its final approach, resulting in the deaths of all 67 individuals aboard both aircraft. Among the victims were passengers, crew members, and soldiers, including members of the figure skating community returning from a national development camp.
