Mica Miller's Attorney Says There's a "Bombshell" in the 911 Call Nobody's Found Yet

Days after Mica Miller filed for divorce from John Paul "JP" Miller in April 2024, she called 911 to say she was going to end her life and wanted her family to be able to find her body — but is there something else that 911 call can tell us? 

In this episode of Criminally Obsessed, investigative reporter Anne Emerson speaks with Regina Ward, the attorney who represented Mica Miller in her divorce from pastor John Paul "JP" Miller, and who is featured prominently in the new Netflix documentary “Death of the Pastor’s Wife.” 

Ward says that buried within the 911 call — and the events surrounding it — is a significant detail that online investigators have overlooked entirely. Ward also lays out why she has doubts about JP Miller's account of his whereabouts the day Mica died, and why she believes Mica's decision to purchase a firearm shortly before her death points to fear, not despair. 

Beyond the mystery of the 911 call, Ward describes the extent of the alleged coercive control and psychological abuse Mica disclosed to her — including how she says JP weaponized Mica's faith against her — and explains why South Carolina's current abuse laws, which require physical harm, failed to protect her. Since Mica's death, Ward has become an outspoken advocate for coercive control legislation, and shares her hopes that this case could change the law for future victims.
