CYBOK: The Cyber Security Body of Knowledge

A comprehensive framework funded by the UK’s National Cyber Security Programme to codify the foundational concepts of the field. Created through extensive international collaboration between academic experts and industry practitioners, the project provides a structured overview of nineteen distinct Knowledge Areas. These areas span five major categories, ranging from human and regulatory aspects to technical topics like cryptography, forensics, and malware analysis. By establishing a transparent and openly accessible resource, the initiative aims to standardize cybersecurity education, professional training, and organizational capacity building. The documentation serves as a rigorous baseline for mapping academic curricula and developing professional certifications globally. Ultimately, this body of knowledge functions as an evolving guide to the socio-technical spectrum of modern digital defense.
