U.S. to Russia: End the War—or No Deal

I examine the reported G20 confrontation between U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov: no economic relief for Moscow until Russia ends its war against Ukraine. European officials also rejected a normalization photo with the Russian delegation in Asheville.

I assess the stalled Russia sanctions bill in the House after its 86–11 Senate passage, the strategic case for sustained pressure on Vladimir Putin, and the reported resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll amid readiness disputes with Pete Hegseth. The larger question is whether U.S. leadership will match its stated commitment to Ukraine with effective policy.
