Episode 116: Fletch (1985)

I revisit Fletch (1985), a film I’ve probably seen 20 times and still consider one of the funniest comedies of the 1980s.

Chevy Chase is at the height of his powers here, and his comic timing, confidence and endless stream of ridiculous aliases and impersonations still make me laugh. I look back at some of the film’s funniest moments, including Gordon Liddy, Dr Rosen, Don Corleone, Harry S. Truman, the tennis court, M. Emmet Walsh and the brilliant stolen-car sequence.

I also talk about Harold Faltermeyer’s unforgettable electronic score, the memories of watching the film repeatedly with my dad, and why Fletch is one of those rare comedies that still works for me after all these years.

Some movies become part of your life. Fletch is definitely one of mine.
