August 14, 2026; 5pm: “Stranger things have happened” is Donald Trump’s response to a proposal that he declare a national emergency to take control of our elections, an unsettling thing to hear given that the upcoming midterms will serve as a symbolic referendum on Trump and his administration a year and a half into his second term.
