The amazing guitarist, Pat Martino, while he was recovering from his near fatal seizure in the mid 1970's met with a highschooll junior, David K. Israel. They ended up recording a duet album together that was never released.
Israel is now a world famous composer author, screenwriter, director, and producer---and a couple months ago this long lost tape of their duets turned up. It involved Martino improvising over Israel's synthesizer tracks.
The world premiere of one of these tracks is featured in this episode, along with an interview David Israel did specifically for Discovering Jazz. Here he shares with us how this recording came about, his relationship with Pat Martino, as well as his own story of resilience.
I also play some great recordings by Pat Martino, as well as some of the latest offerings from David K. Israel.
