Fog, Hands Raised, and the 24 That Vanished: Donggang 1987
Fog hid a small boat carrying 24 people - eight children, one baby, five women - when it drifted into Donggang Bay on March 7, 1987; within hours every passenger was dead and the official files listed them as "unknown people" for thirteen years. How did an unarmed vessel with immigration papers, a notebook last written on March 6, and pleas of "don't shoot" end with machine guns, anti-tank rounds, and bulldozed graves?
In this episode, we tell the documented record of what happened that afternoon on Lieyu Island: who sent the orders, how the soldiers responded, and the chains of praise and promotion that followed; what remained - the notebook, immigration certificates, and the demolished burial sites - and the unanswered questions they leave.
