Stellantis' Advanced EV Battery Technology Strategy

The Intelligent Battery Integrated System (IBIS) represents a fundamental shift in electric vehicle powertrain architecture, spearheaded by Stellantis in collaboration with Saft and a consortium of French research institutions. The core innovation of IBIS is the integration of inverter and charger functionalities directly into the battery modules, eliminating the need for separate, heavy, and space-consuming components. This approach yields significant, quantifiable benefits, including up to a 10% improvement in energy efficiency, a 15% increase in power output, a total weight reduction of approximately 40 kg, and a 15% decrease in charging times. A fully functional prototype, a Peugeot e-3008, is currently undergoing real-world testing, validating the technology's potential.
