Om avsnittet

This week we’re excited to present a conversation from the 64th New York Film Festival with Possible Love director Lee Chang-dong, moderated by NYFF programmer Justin Chang. An NYFF64 selection, Possible Love is now playing daily at FLC! Get tickets at filmlinc.org/love Eight years after his widely acclaimed thriller Burning (a selection of NYFF56), the great Lee Chang-dong makes his long-awaited return with Possible Love, an intricately layered drama about two women: a documentary filmmaker who is married to a wealthy businessman, and a working-class woman whose husband was laid off from his last job and brutally beaten by the police during a labor strike. When the documentary filmmaker decides to turn her camera on the working class woman’s family, the chasms of class—and the inevitable power imbalances of nonfiction filmmaking—emerge in a brilliant narrative of simmering resentments, shifting allegiances, and sexual tensions. NYFF was thrilled to welcome director Lee for an in-depth conversation about the new film and his long career of making movies that pierce the heart of contemporary South Korea, laying bare the scars of personal trauma and socioeconomic grievance. The 64th New York Film Festival is presented in partnership with Rolex.
