Matt Koetting served in the United States Marine Corps in various roles, including assaultman, machine gunner, JTAC, MCIWS, and Reconnaissance Marine. He was deployed with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once.
During Operation Moshtarak in Afghanistan, aimed at taking control of Marjah from the Taliban, Matt was severely wounded by an IED. He was evacuated and underwent over a dozen surgeries, receiving the Purple Heart from President Barack Obama.
Despite his injuries, Matt screened for and completed the Basic Reconnaissance Course, joining the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. He also attended the US Army Airborne School and the Tactical Air Control Party school.
After his final deployment with the 11th MEU, Matt's injuries led to his medical retirement from the Marine Corps. He co-founded Invictus International, providing armed and unarmed security services and employing veterans.
