The Birth of the Sky King

In the last episode, we talked about the birth of the first gods from chaos: Gaia, the goddess of the earth, Tartarus of the abyss, night and day... the world gradually became orderly.

Today, we're moving into the next chapter—the birth of the Sky King.

From Gaia, the Earth herself, a new being came into existence: Uranus, the god of the sky. He was Gaia's first child, but also her partner. Now, that might sound a little strange to us, but to the ancient Greeks, it wasn't really about family like we think of it. It was symbolic—the earth and the sky had to come together for the world to truly exist.

Uranus wasn't just any god. He was huge, stretching endlessly across the horizon, covering Gaia like a giant dome of blue. And once he joined with her, new life began to appear. Together, they had the Twelve Titans—six sons and six daughters. Each one represented a different part of nature and the universe, and together they became the first generation of gods who supported the heavens and shaped the earth.

But it didn't stop there. Gaia and Uranus also had other children. There were the Cyclopes—strong and clever beings who would later forge Zeus's thunderbolts. And then appeared the Hecatoncheires, Hundred-Handed Giants, or simply the Hundred-Handed Giants, fierce and unstoppable, a symbol of nature's wildest side.

With all these children, Uranus rose to power. Spanning the skies above Gaia, he became the very first ruler of the gods—the Sky King. His reign marked the real start of the Age of the Gods, laying the groundwork for the struggles, alliances, and conflicts that would follow.
