What Bible Translation Is Best for Study? (Nehemiah 8:1-8) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Om avsnittet
Today we talk about why your English Bible is already a translation, and why there are so many versions to choose from. We look at Nehemiah 8, where the Levites helped God's people understand the Law, and at how one word choice about Phoebe in Romans 16 can shape what we believe. My hope is that you worry less about finding the one perfect Bible and get excited to open the one you have.
"They read from the book, from the law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading." (Nehemiah 8:8)
Questions this episode answers
What is the difference between a word-for-word and a thought-for-thought Bible translation?
Word-for-word translations like the NASB and ESV stay close to the structure of the original Hebrew and Greek, even when the English feels stiff. Thought-for-thought translations like the NIV and NLT work out what a passage means and say it in natural English. Paraphrases like The Message retell Scripture in fresh words but are not built for careful study.
Is the King James Version the only true Bible translation?
No. The KJV was itself a revision of earlier English Bibles, and its translators added notes where they were unsure how to render a word. Most Christians around the world have never read Scripture in English at all, so God's Word is not tied to one English version.
Which Bible translation should I use?
Use the one you will actually open and understand. Many people use a word-for-word Bible like the NASB for deep study and a more readable one for everyday reading. Comparing a verse in a few translations with free tools like YouVersion or Blue Letter Bible shows you what changes and why.
