What Do the Numbers in the Feeding of the 5,000 Mean? (John 6:1-15) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Om avsnittet
Today we mark the numbers in John 6:1-15 with orange in our color method study. Before we start, I explain why verse numbers are not inspired, why 11:11 is not a message from God, and why the Bible was never written as a code. Then we line up the numbers and see how John shows the impossible math, and why Jesus had the disciples gather twelve baskets of leftovers.
"So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten." (John 6:13)
Questions this episode answers
Do numbers in the Bible have hidden meanings?
Numbers in Scripture often show scale and can point to larger themes, like twelve echoing the twelve tribes of Israel. But the Bible was written to be understood, not as a code to crack. Notice what the number helps you understand, and stop unless the text itself makes the connection.
Is 11:11 a sign from God?
No. Chapter and verse numbers were added centuries later to help people find passages, so they are not part of inspired Scripture. God can use anything, but repeating numbers are not a biblical way He promises to give direction.
Why were there twelve baskets of leftovers?
Everyone had already eaten as much as they wanted, so the leftovers were not needed to prove the miracle. Jesus told the disciples to gather what remained, and they filled twelve baskets. The same men who said it was impossible ended up holding the evidence in their own hands.
