Why Does John Mention Passover Before Feeding the 5,000? (John 6:1-15) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Om avsnittet

Today we mark the timing words in John 6:1-15 with purple, and one small verse about the Passover changes how we read the whole story. We talk about why the Passover points back to the exodus and the manna in the wilderness, and why the crowd called Jesus the Prophet. It is a good reminder that slowing down helps you see what you would otherwise skim past.

"Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near." (John 6:4)

Questions this episode answers

Why does John mention the Passover in John 6?

Passover remembers the night God rescued Israel from Egypt, and after that rescue He fed them bread from heaven in the wilderness. By noting that Passover was near, John frames the feeding of the five thousand as an exodus-shaped story. Jesus is showing He is the One who provides bread from heaven.

Why did the crowd call Jesus the Prophet in John 6:14?

In Deuteronomy 18, God promised to raise up a prophet like Moses. During Passover season the people already had Moses on their minds, so when Jesus fed them in the wilderness, they made the connection. They had the right person but the wrong idea of what He came to do, which is why they tried to make Him king by force.

Why do timing words matter in Bible study?

Timing words show the order of events and where a passage fits in the larger story of Scripture. Words like after, then, and already link one scene to another. Noticing them helps you read the Bible as one connected story instead of separate pieces.
