Why Did Jesus Ride a Donkey Into Jerusalem? (John 12:12-19) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Om avsnittet

Today we look at Jesus' entry into Jerusalem in John 12:12-19, and yes, I tell the story of bringing a donkey to church. We talk about Passover, why the donkey pointed to a King of peace, and why the crowd expected a political rescuer instead. It is a call to follow Jesus for who He really is, even when that is not the popular choice.

"Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey's colt." (John 12:15)

Questions this episode answers

Why did Jesus ride a donkey on Palm Sunday?

Riding a donkey fulfilled Zechariah 9:9, which said Israel's King would come humble and riding on a donkey. A donkey was a sign of peace, not war. Jesus was showing what kind of King He is.

What do the palm branches mean?

Palm branches were a symbol of victory and national hope. The crowd waved them and shouted Hosanna, which is a cry for God to save. They wanted deliverance, but Jesus came to bring a deeper salvation.

Why did the crowd turn on Jesus later?

Many in the crowd were excited about His miracles and hoped He would overthrow Rome. When He did not meet their political hopes, their enthusiasm faded. Following Jesus means accepting His plan, not just the parts we expected.
