Why Did Jesus Confront the Religious Leaders? (Matthew 21-23) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Tuesday of Holy Week is one of the most intense and overlooked days in the life of Jesus. Today we walk through Matthew 21 to 23, where the religious leaders question His authority and Jesus answers with parables and bold, public truth. We see that Jesus is loving but not passive, and that His correction is meant to bring us closer to Him.

"And He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'" (Matthew 22:37)

Questions this episode answers

What happened on Tuesday of Holy Week?

Jesus returned to the temple to teach, and the chief priests and elders challenged His authority. He answered with parables like the two sons, the wicked tenants, and the wedding feast. The day built toward His strong warnings to the scribes and Pharisees in Matthew 23.

Why did the religious leaders feel threatened by Jesus?

Jesus exposed religion that looked good on the outside but kept people from truly knowing God. His authority and His popularity with the crowds challenged their position. They tried to trap Him with questions, but He kept turning the conversation back to the heart.

Why does truth from God sometimes feel uncomfortable?

When God's Word shows us something false in our lives, it can sting. But His correction comes from love, and Hebrews 12:6 says the Lord disciplines those He loves. Truth is meant to draw us closer to Him, not push us away.
