How Do I Pray When I Feel Stuck? (Psalm 136) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Today we trace the thread of redemption through Israel's history the way the psalmist does in Psalm 136. This psalm is a great model when you feel stuck in prayer, because it teaches you to praise God for how He has worked in your own story. It also points us forward to the redeeming work Jesus did on the cross.

"Give thanks to the God of heaven, For His lovingkindness is everlasting." (Psalm 136:26)

Questions this episode answers

Why does Psalm 136 repeat the same line in every verse?

Every verse ends with the truth that God's lovingkindness is everlasting. The repetition was likely sung back and forth in worship. It drives home that every part of Israel's story, from creation to rescue, flowed from God's steady love.

How can Psalm 136 help my prayer life?

When you do not know what to say, follow the pattern of this psalm. Name specific things God has done in your life, and after each one, thank Him for His love that lasts forever. Remembering His faithfulness often gets prayer moving again.

How does Psalm 136 point to Jesus?

The psalm celebrates God rescuing His people from slavery and bringing them home. That story of rescue reaches its fullness in Jesus, who redeemed us from sin through the cross. His love is the clearest proof that God's love endures forever.
