Om avsnittet

Psalm 22 is one of the most quoted psalms in the New Testament, and it is often called the Psalm of the Cross. Today we look at how this Messianic psalm describes things only Jesus could fulfill. It is one of the clearest ways we hear Jesus in the Psalms.

"My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning." (Psalm 22:1)

Questions this episode answers

Why did Jesus quote Psalm 22 on the cross?

When Jesus cried out, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Matthew 27:46), He was quoting Psalm 22:1. Many who heard Him knew that psalm, which moves from suffering to victory.

What is a Messianic psalm?

A Messianic psalm points forward to the Messiah. The New Testament shows Jesus fulfilling psalms like Psalm 2, Psalm 16, Psalm 22, and Psalm 110.

Does Psalm 22 end in despair?

No. The second half turns to praise and declares that all the ends of the earth will turn to the Lord (Psalm 22:27).
