Why Is Life So Short, and How Should I Live It? (Psalm 39) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

In Psalm 39, David is still dealing with the consequences of his sin, and he sees how short life really is. Every moment can draw us closer to God or pull us farther away. Today we gain some perspective on how to use our lives wisely and make an eternal impact.

"And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You." (Psalm 39:7)

Questions this episode answers

What does Psalm 39 say about how short life is?

David asks God to help him know how fleeting his life is. He says his days are only a handbreadth and that each person is like a breath (Psalm 39:4-5). Seeing life this way helps us hold our plans loosely and fix our hope on God.

How can I live with eternity in mind?

Psalm 39:7 shows us where to put our hope, in the Lord Himself. Living with eternity in mind means investing in our relationship with God and in people. Small daily choices add up to a lasting impact.
