How Is God Our Defender? (Psalm 48) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Psalm 48 is one of the Zion hymns, songs that celebrate Jerusalem and the temple as the place where God dwelt with His people. Today we look at why that place mattered so much. Just like then, God wants a place of prominence in our lives so He can be close to us and defend us.

"As is Your name, O God, So is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness." (Psalm 48:10)

Questions this episode answers

What are the Zion psalms?

The Zion psalms, such as Psalms 46, 48, and 76, celebrate Jerusalem as the city where God chose to dwell among His people. They praise God as the true protector of the city. They remind us that God has always wanted to be near His people.

What does it mean that God is our defender?

In Psalm 48 the city is safe because God is in it, not because of its walls. The same is true for us. When we give Him first place, we can trust Him to guard us and guide us (Psalm 48:14).
