Why Does God Discipline His People? (Psalm 74) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Om avsnittet
Today we study Psalm 74, a prayer from a season when Israel faced the consequences of community sin. God cannot and will not be silent about sin forever, and that can be hard to live through. This psalm reminds us that God's discipline in our lives comes from His love for us.
"Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun." (Psalm 74:16)
Questions this episode answers
What is Psalm 74 about?
Psalm 74 is a lament after enemies destroyed the sanctuary in Jerusalem. The psalmist asks why God seems to have rejected His people. Then he remembers God's power as King and Creator and asks Him to act.
Is God's discipline a sign of His love?
Yes. Hebrews 12 teaches that God disciplines those He loves, the way a good father trains his children. Discipline is meant to turn us back to Him and make us more like Him.
What should we do when we face the consequences of sin?
Confess and turn back to God. Remember His past faithfulness, as Psalm 74 does, and ask Him to restore. God is still the King who rules over the day and the night.
