Can Faith and Fear Exist Together? (Psalm 86) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Fear is a normal human emotion, and we will all face it this side of heaven. Today we look at King David in Psalm 86, facing something hard and letting his faith speak louder than his fear. Being afraid does not disqualify you from faith, and sometimes faith and fear can even work together.

"But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth." (Psalm 86:15)

Questions this episode answers

Is it a sin to be afraid as a Christian?

Feeling afraid is part of being human, and even David cried out to God in fear. What matters is where we take our fear. Psalm 56:3 says, when I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.

What does David pray in Psalm 86?

David asks God to hear him, protect him, and teach him His ways (Psalm 86:11). He calls God merciful, gracious, and abounding in lovingkindness. His fear drives him toward God instead of away from Him.

How can I let faith speak louder than fear?

Start by naming your fear openly to God, like David did. Then remind yourself of who God is from Scripture. Faith grows as we choose to trust His character even while our feelings catch up.
