Is God Still Faithful When His Promises Seem Delayed? (Psalm 89) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Waiting on God is hard, especially when life looks like the opposite of what He promised. Today we study Psalm 89, written when David's royal line seemed to be falling apart. We learn that God is working even when we cannot see Him, and Jesus is the proof that He keeps His word.

"I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth." (Psalm 89:1)

Questions this episode answers

What is Psalm 89 about?

Psalm 89 celebrates God's covenant with David, the promise that his line and throne would last forever (Psalm 89:3-4). Then it turns to lament, because the king had been defeated and the promise looked broken. The psalm holds praise and honest questions side by side.

How was God's promise to David fulfilled?

The New Testament shows that Jesus is the Son of David who reigns forever (Luke 1:32-33). What looked like the end of David's line was not the end of God's plan. In Christ, the promise is kept in a bigger way than anyone expected.

What should I do when God's promises seem delayed?

Like the psalmist, we can bring our questions openly to God while still holding on to who He is. Remembering His past faithfulness helps us trust Him in the waiting. His timing is different from ours, but His word does not fail.
