Why Did Jesus Tell the Blind Man to Wash in the Pool of Siloam? (John 9) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

Today we look at John 9, where Jesus heals a man born blind but first sends him to wash in the pool of Siloam. We talk about why Jesus often invites us to take a small step of obedience before the change comes. If you feel stuck, this episode will help you notice the quiet places where God is asking you to trust Him.

"and said to him, 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam' (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing." (John 9:7)

Questions this episode answers

Why didn't Jesus heal the blind man right away?

Jesus could have healed him instantly, but He gave him something to do first. The man had to walk to the pool and wash. His healing came as he obeyed, which shows that faith is often expressed through simple steps.

What is the meaning of the pool of Siloam?

John tells us Siloam means Sent (John 9:7). The man was sent by Jesus, the One sent by the Father. The name points us back to Jesus as the true source of healing and light.

What is spiritual blindness in John 9?

The Pharisees could see physically but refused to see who Jesus was. The healed man, once blind, came to believe and worship Him. Jesus came so that those who know they need Him can truly see (John 9:39).
