Why Did the Religious Leaders Reject Jesus? (John 7:45-52) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study

In this episode we walk through John 7:45-52, where the temple officers come back without arresting Jesus and the religious leaders push back in anger. We focus on Nicodemus, one of the few who slowed down and asked for a fair hearing instead of reacting out of pride. It is a gentle challenge to notice our own quick judgments and stay open to all that God wants to show us.

"The officers answered, "Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks." (John 7:46)

Questions this episode answers

Why did the Pharisees reject Jesus in John 7?

They were confident in their own authority and assumed nothing good could come from Galilee. Pride and prejudice kept them from looking carefully at what Jesus was saying and doing.

What role does Nicodemus play in John 7?

Nicodemus reminds the other leaders that the Law does not judge a man without first hearing him. He is a voice of fairness and careful thought in a room full of quick judgment, and later he helps bury Jesus.

How can pride keep us from hearing God?

Pride makes us think we already have God figured out. When we hold our assumptions loosely and stay humble, we leave room for God to show us more of Himself.
