What's going on, my Crazy Cabbies?! It's me MT and welcome back to the heavy spoiler show. This is going to be a breakdown of the year here movie taxi driver starring Robert de Niro. So let's not waste any time and get right into it because the meter’s running!

While Taxi Driver was directed by legendary director Martin Scorsese, it was actually written by screenwriter Paul Schrader... and is a story that is deeply rooted in Paul Schrader’s own personal sense of loneliness that he was suffering from at the time. Bro was living out in Los Angeles completely alone with no friends…while going through both a divorce and the end of a new relationship at the same damn time. And it’s because of Schrader’s depressive period of loneliness that he started to get into some of the habits that we see Travis Bickle engage in in “Taxi Driver”...namely viewing hot buns and holding big guns.

But while Paul Schrader wasn’t a taxi driver himself at the time, he did work as a fried chicken delivery man…which had him do a fair bit of depressive driving around Los Angeles. It was this very job…combined with Schrader’s solitude and deteriorating mental health…that would inspire him to use the concept of a taxi driver as a metaphor for American male loneliness.
