Welcome back to History's Not Boring! Today, Mira and Finn are investigating the master of mysteries himself: Edgar Allan Poe! Did you know that without him, we wouldn't have Sherlock Holmes, Goosebumps, or even Stranger Things?! Born in Boston in 1809, Edgar had a really tough start. He lost his parents before he was three and was raised by a wealthy Virginia family who never quite showed him the love he needed. But Edgar used his incredible imagination to write the world's very first modern detective story, 46 years before Sherlock Holmes was even created! He basically invented the spooky-mystery genre with thrilling tales like The Tell-Tale Heart and his super famous poem, The Raven. Even though his stories were amazing, Edgar lived a broke life because back then, the country didn't really pay writers for their work! To make things even spookier, he died under completely mysterious circumstances in Baltimore at age 40—a real-life mystery that nobody has ever solved! Tune in to discover the amazing man who taught the whole world how to be deliciously scared!
