What Matters Most When Recording

One of the biggest things I see holding home studio musicians back is not knowing what actually matters most when recording. Today I want to walk through the hierarchy — a simple pyramid where the closer something is to the performer, the more it matters.

We'll go from performance and source all the way up through mics, mic placement, preamps, and converters. This will change how you record and how you think about every gear upgrade you make. Part two on the mixing hierarchy is coming next week.
