Description
Alex Wilson preaches 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 at House Church Kauai.
Paul is not writing about fabric. He is writing about order, and he gives four reasons for it, arranged from most important to least: the character of God in the Trinity, the order of creation in Genesis 2, the connectedness of men and women who cannot exist without each other, and the customs of the first century.
The heart of the passage is that submission is not inferiority. The Son is fully equal in essence with the Father and willingly submits to Him. And Paul closes the door on abuse himself, because a man is now born of woman, and all things are from God.
This is where the Gospel meets the text. Christ submitted to the will of the Father and laid down His life for His bride, not to keep her down but to make her clean. That is what headship looks like when God defines it. And it means order was never given to steal joy. There is more joy in order than there is in chaos.
