A great-grandmother in Gabon is still correcting a seven-year-old's taste-words in a language the war was supposed to have ended.

Set in the covered food stalls of Mont-Bouët Market in Libreville, this episode documents one of the most underdocumented branches of the Igbo diaspora: the Biafra-displaced communities of Central Africa, where Igbo survives not because the streets speak it, but because one elder refuses to let it go quiet. This is intangible cultural heritage carried across a border the war drew, held together by an endangered language and a soup pot.

Research in this episode draws on Emmanuel Emeka Nwaoke, Ebonyi State University, 2019 — his finding that Igbo endangerment is sharpest not where the language is banned, but where daily life simply stops requiring it.
