La gigantesca 4a armata tedesca di Alberto del Württemberg è pronta ad attaccare le foze belghe sul fiume Yser e quelle britanniche a Ypres. Gli Alleati dovranno tenere la linea, oppure i Tedeschi potrebbero riuscire a dilagare nel nord della Francia. Per impedire la conquista dell'ultimo fazzoletto libero di suolo belga, il re Alberto è disposto a fare una scelta dolorosa e catastrofica.
