Today we continue with conference 4, or chapter 4, of I Believe in Love on Abandonment in Jesus.
Webster Dictionary defines abandonment as “an unrestraint, or being uninhibited.” This is precisely how Jesus desires that we come to him; with a radical, unrestrained, and uninhibited reckless trust and love. But practically speaking what does this look like?
Father Jean says “Practically speaking, it consists of seeing the will of God in all that creatures and events present to you” and as St. Francis de Sales says it is to ‘ask nothing and refuse nothing’
Discussion Questions:
1. “If he destroys my little plans, I kiss His adorable hand. It is because He wants to realize His own, which are more beautiful anyway than those which I could have made myself.” Have you ever thought of God‘s plan for you as “beautiful”?
2. God refused the prayer of St. Monica for her son St. Augustine, in order to answer her greater prayer (see pages 101-102). Have you seen similar circumstances in your life (failures or victories)? Has this increased your trust and abandonment in God?
3. “It is said that the Devil makes the gravity of the sin appear to be less during the temptation and greater after the fall.” How do you think knowing this truth can help you avoid sin?
