"When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he WITHDREW in a boat to a DESERTED place by himself."
As I have been experiencing my own places of deep sorrow and pain, I couldn't help but be surprised and inspired by Christ's own example of walking through pain.
Jesus did not merely retreat to hide from authorities. No, I believe, that even the wounded heart of the King of the Universe is moved to moments of needed solitude. He wept at the death of Lazarus, and withdrew once learning of the death of John the Baptist.
Christ, himself, shows us the authenticity and necessity of the human heart. It may shed tears and withdraw or retreat to tend to the broken wound of pain and sorrow. BUT, this is not where He remained. No, "his heart was moved" for the hurting needs of others...so he loved and served.
We, too, are called to love like Christ. When we are in the deep heavy waters of pain and sorrow, it may just be the capacity to still love and serve others that will draw us out of hiding and wipe away our tears. And when our heart's capacity multiples, like the fishes and loaves, it may just be the secret little miracle God is working in us.
