the seven emotions (qi-qing: 七情)

Excess emotions are "causes "of disease as the Pernicious Influences.

excess elation is associated with slow and scattered Qi;

excess anger induces the Qi to ascend ;

excess sadness and grief weakens the Qi;

excess worry generates 'knottedness' or 'sickness';

fear results in descending Qi ;

fright induces chaotic Qi.
