Powerball Democracy: Talking with Sortition USA's Ian Troesoyer

Today we have a very special guest… Ian Troesoyer of Sortition USA came by the Let’s Make Them Pay Studios to talk about sortition, democracy by lottery. Ian is a content creator, activist, nurse practitioner, epidemiologist, and expert on sortition. We dive into the deep end discussing the pros and cons of replacing our electoral system with randomly selected representatives using citizen assemblies, an idea whose time has come. Topics covered include why elections are inherently aristocratic, how sortition neutralizes money and careers in politics, sortition success stories, and how random selection could even be applied in the judicial system and workplaces. It was an excellent discussion I really think you’ll enjoy…
