Think about your first instinct when you feel a negative emotion. Do you shove it down or try to ignore it? Do you think about it nonstop to the point of wallowing in it?
We all have moments when we do those things.
But today, I'm here to tell you that emotional pain does not mean that something has gone wrong.
Part of being human is that we get to experience this wild ride of emotions-positive and negative. *Note that I'm not talking about mental illness, trauma response, or other circumstances that require the help of a professional. I'm talking about the normal ups and downs of life.
Believe it or not, clean emotional pain can help us grow and develop into the person we want to become. Pain only becomes a problem when we let our emotions take over our actions, or when allow ourselves to wallow in unhelpful, or "dirty" pain.
