Ep. 180: ANCESTOR VENERATION: The Magic in Our Blood & Bones 🕯️🌿

The past is never really the past… especially in the Owens family.

The veil is at its thinnest with Samhain approaching and the season of remembrance is upon us! Tonight, we're turning our attention to the people who came before us, the stories they left behind, and the pieces of themselves that continue to live through us.

This week on Magnolia Street, we're exploring Ancestor Veneration—the centuries-old practice of honoring those who have passed on, and the many ways their memories, traditions, and legacies remain woven into our everyday lives.

From Maria Owens's haunting portrait and mysterious blue sapphire to the Book of the Raven, inherited magic, and the family curse itself, we're tracing the ancestral threads that connect generations of Owens women throughout Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic series.

But this time, we're also opening up our OWN family archives! 📜

Join us as we uncover tales of immigration, love, loss, survival, and a few extraordinary twists of fate. We're sharing stories of ancestors whose lives have been preserved through photographs, paintings, handwritten histories, music, and even voices captured on recordings from generations past.

And somewhere along the way, a suspicious family resemblance leads us down an absolutely RIDICULOUS Magnolia Street coded ancestral rabbit hole involving an Italian winemaker, a Croatian connection, and one VERY scandalous family legend that leads The Stinas wondering.... ARE WE RELATED? 🍷😂

We'll also explore ancestral altars, offerings, spiritual traditions, inherited heirlooms, and the everyday rituals that keep our loved ones close.

Because sometimes the greatest magic we inherit isn't found in a spellbook or a centuries-old family treasure. Sometimes it's in the recipes we cook, the songs we sing, the stories we tell, and the faces we recognize in our own reflections.

So gather around the ancestral table, witches. We're digging up the family roots… and maybe a few skeletons along the way. 🖤

After all, we are all somebody's ancestors in the making.
